Compost Sites

OCRRA operates two compost sites: Amboy and Jamesville. Both sites accept yard waste from the community and sell premium grade compost and mulch. The Amboy Site also accepts food waste from institutions and businesses.

OCRRA Only Sells USCC Certified Compost

OCRRA Compost (USCC Certified)What does that mean? It means OCRRA meets the US Composting Council's Seal of Testing Assurance guidelines. It means we guarantee that our compost is rigorously tested by third party laboratories and that it meets all DEC and EPA requirements. In short, it means you are getting high-quality compost that does not vary from batch to batch. Click here for recent test results.

Did you know, you can only get STA certified compost in two places in NYS? That's right, and OCRRA's compost is the only STA certified compost that is created without the use of bio-solids! It is a locally sourced and locally produced compost sold at a price you can't shake a stick at!

Benenfits of Using Compost

  • Enriches the soil with nutrients, making your plants grow better
  • Retains moisture, which means you don't have to water as much
  • Supresses plant disease, making your plants healthier
  • Reduces the need for chemical fertilizers and pesticides,
which protects our finite groundwater supply from pollutants

How to get compost

There are two easy ways, which one you use is dependent upon your status.

1) Households can purchase a $15 site membership that allows:

  • drop off unlimited amounts of yard waste at either site
  • take away up to 6 cubic yards of compost or 6 cubic yards of mulch per pass. If more material is needed another membership may be purchased or you may purchase material on a per yard basis.) For those of you wondering, a cubic yard is roughly equivalent to a standard size pick-up truck load (3' x 3' x 3'). Multiply that by six and you've got a whole lot of compost or mulch!

Get a household membership today!

Download an application or e-mail us and we'll send you one. You can also stop by either of the compost sites during their normal hours of operation and purchase one there.

2) Commercial users do not need a pass, but are charged on a volume-based scale.

Site Use Guidelines
