NOTE: Latex paint is NO longer accepted at Household Hazardous Waste Days.
To dispose of small amounts of leftover latex paint, leave the container in a well-ventilated area until the paint is completely dried out.
To speed up the process, or if there is a large amount of liquid paint, mix in cat litter or paint hardening crystals. These will absorb the liquid paint while it air dries. Most local paint or hardware stores carry paint hardening crystals.
Once paint is solidified, put the entire container in the trash (remove lid before disposing).
PLEASE NOTE: For the beauty of the community, do not put paint cans in the trash that contain liquid paint. This creates a mess on the streets during the collection process.

Preparing for OCRRA's Household Hazardous Waste Day
1) Place all items, including paint cans, in cardboard boxes. Use newspaper or cardboard to keep items from tipping over or hitting each other. Wrap leaking items in newspaper and put in a plastic bag. Tighten all caps.
2) Avoid exposure to potentially hazardous vapors. Ventilate your car if storing household hazardous materials in your vehicle prior to drop off. Do NOT smoke while transporting materials. We want you to arrive safely.
3) When at the event, please stay in your vehicle at all times.
4) For safety reasons, please, no smoking while at the event and if possible leave children and pets at home.
5) Household batteries should be within driver’s reach. New DOT regulations require batteries be separated into the following types before arrival at the event:
- alkalines - typical household batteries (AA, AAA, C, D, etc.)
- button batteries – hearing aid or watch type batteries
- rechargeables – found in power tools, phones, and other electronic
equipment. Some look like alkalines, but are rechargeable; check labels.
6) Do not bring any trash or other items for disposal. Only household hazardous waste will be accepted during the collection.
